A 26-year-old Dominican national from Dorchester was sentenced in Boston federal court for the crime of illegal reentry into the United States after deportation. Tommy Raul Jimenez-Perez, the man in question, received an 18-month prison sentence, to be served concurrently with a state drug sentence of five to seven years and was dealt three years of supervised release.
The case against Jimenez-Perez was concluded yesterday, marking the end of a journey that saw him to plead guilty to the charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien back in October 2023. The proceedings were overseen by U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin who determined the concurrent nature of the sentences.
Details surrounding when Jimenez-Perez first entered the United States are unclear, but what followed were two narcotics convictions in May 2018. He left the country of his own accord after these incidents. However, in February 2020, Jimenez-Perez found himself in the grasp of U.S. Border Patrol in Texas, and by March 3 of that year, was removed from U.S. soil once more. It wasn't long before he managed to find his way back into the country illegally once again, a fact discovered when he was arrested on unrelated charges in January 2023.
Announcements about the sentencing were made by Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy; Todd M. Lyons, Field Office Director, Boston, for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations; and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Charles Dell’Anno and Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the Criminal Division. This information, including the details of the sentencing and those involved in the case, were obtained by means of an official statement, United States Attorney's Office reports.
