Community support in Douglas County just received a major lift through a series of grants aimed at addressing critical needs. Douglas County Commissioners have announced that 19 charitable organizations will benefit from a combined $135,000, courtesy of the 2024 allocation from the Philip S. Miller Trust. These funds are earmarked to aid everything from suicide prevention to therapy, emergency financial assistance, support for seniors, and programs for school-age children.
Noting the impact on the community, Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon remarked, "The Douglas County Community Foundation’s incredible contributions to our community has grown exponentially each year." He continued, "We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with you to elevate our Community Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) and ensure that those in our community who face a crisis have the resources they need," according to Douglas County. The new grants continue a tradition of outreach and assistance that casts a broad net of support for various at-risk and vulnerable groups.
In response to the collaboration between Douglas County and the Douglas County Community Foundation (DCCF) that oversees the grant distribution, DCCF Chair Tera Radloff said, "We are grateful to the Board of County Commissioners for entrusting us to be good stewards of their financial gifts to worthy and vetted Douglas County nonprofits." She highlighted that these funds are crucial for enabling local nonprofits to continue making significant impacts in the community, as obtained by Douglas County.
A diverse array of nonprofits will benefit from the 2024 Miller grants. Recipients this year include Backpack Society, Help & Hope Center, and Parker Task Force for Human Services among others, all chosen for their roles in improving the quality of life within the county. In addition, organizations such as Aging Resources of Douglas County and Castle Rock Senior Activity Center are set to receive assistance in their continued service to the senior population, as noted by the county's press release.
