The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has unanimously passed the FY 2025 budget, marking a commitment to fiscal responsibility and strategic planning based on community input. The approved budget totals $131 million for the General Fund and was ushered in with a 5-0 vote on Tuesday, signifying the board's dedication to aligning with the needs and evolving aspirations of its constituents, as reported on the county's official website.
As described in an announcement by Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, Douglas County Commission Chair, the budget was the result of the collaboration of various stakeholders, including elected officials and department heads, moreover, the budget was founded on the principles of thorough engagement and public input, aims to address community needs within the constraints of current economic realities. Chairman Jones emphasized a vision for delivering superior public service as Douglas County strides towards progress – efforts encapsulated in these fiscal decisions.
Reflecting the strategic priorities laid out by the county, a significant segment of the budget, over $46.7 million, is dedicated to bolstering public safety, which will support the approved salary increases for deputies in 2024. The budget also designates substantial funds to other key areas: $22 million to the judiciary, and $21 million towards infrastructure and community amenities such as libraries, parks and recreation, and senior services, as acknowledged by Douglas County Administration.

The Board of Commissioners has approved the new budget, following their decision to lower the millage rate for Douglas County taxpayers for the second consecutive year.
