An early morning collision on M-43 near Bangor resulted in one fatality and left a woman with serious injuries yesterday. According to FOX 17, a 28-year-old man driving a Toyota Camry died after his car, hitting a deer, went out of control and crashed into an oncoming Chevrolet Traverse around 5:10 a.m. on M-43 near 66th Street in Van Buren County's Geneva Township. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

The woman driving the SUV sustained serious injuries, but they are not expected to be life-threatening. As reported by WOOD TV, she was 26 years old from the Lawrence area, pinned in her vehicle and had to be extracted by firefighters before being transported to the hospital. She was wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.

Authorities shut down a section of M-43 for hours following the incident to conduct an investigation. MLive noted that the Van Buren Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police are involved in the ongoing investigation, assisted by the South Haven Police Department at the scene. The road was closed for around three hours during the preliminary investigation.

As the investigation continues, authorities have not yet released the names of the individuals involved in the accident. In the coming days, further details are expected to emerge regarding the circumstances that led to this fatal chain-reaction crash.
