The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department has alerted residents of a novel burglary strategy involving drones in the Stevenson Ranch area. Per the FOX LA report, this trend emerged over a week ago with three burglaries linked to possible drone reconnaissance.
Meanwhile, an investigation is underway following these incidents, during which thieves possibly employing drones have flustered the gated community, despite homeowners attempting to fortify against such tech-savvy intruders, no suspects are in custody, and authorities from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department have noted a window of operation between 4 and 7 p.m. as seen in a home security video captured by one of the burgled residences, this incident also included the thieves making their escape over a back gate carrying a bag of purported valuables according to an NBC Los Angeles article.
Residents of Stevenson Ranch have expressed mounting concern, with one neighbor, Andrew Eliopulos, asserting an unsettling level of surveillance, “They are obviously looking and watching and seeing what we are doing," Eliopulos disclosed in an interview with CBS News. Other residents who have been victims of such burglaries corroborate these observations.
"They come in at the same time, they come in through the second floor, they break in the window and head straight for the master, get everything, all valuables, and are out in half an hour," a victim expressed their ordeal to NBC Los Angeles. Amidst the distress, one homeowner sought to trace the drone back to its controllers behind a hotel, and while promising leads are being pursued by detectives, citizens are urged to take extra precautionary measures.
