As the temperatures drop and the seasons turn, Duluth residents are advised to take extra care when hitting the roads tonight. Light snowfall across the city has prompted local government officials to issue a warning to those planning to travel. According to a recent announcement on the City of Duluth, MN Government's Facebook page, snow accumulation is expected to be minimal, but caution is still needed as the streets are being treated.
The City has deployed its street maintenance crews to manage the snowfall and keep roadways passable. When newly laid salt and grit still lack the sufficient base of salt residue to optimally perform, the treatments don't immediately take full effect, leading the City to urge drivers to practice safe driving habits. "Until there is a base of salt residue on our roadways," warned the City of Duluth, "the salt and grit we lay down will not be as effective as we like."
