Last Thursday evening, Durham authorities arrested a local woman on charges related to drug trafficking. The Durham Sheriff’s Office Anti-Crime and Narcotics Unit, in collaboration with the US Homeland Security Task Force, ended an investigation that led to the arrest of Yadira Hernandez-Perez, according to a report from Durham Sheriff's Office. The 42-year-old resident of Durham was found with approximately $76,000 in cash during a traffic stop initiated by the officers.
Following the stop, Hernandez-Perez consented to a search of her residence, which yielded around 18 kilograms of cocaine. The report mentioned that she was charged with Trafficking in Cocaine and Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling/Place for a Controlled Substance. She was presented before a magistrate and received a secured bond set at $250,000. As of now, she remains in custody at the Durham County Detention Facility.
The recent operation reflects the substantial efforts by law enforcement to address the flow of illegal drugs. Ms. Hernandez-Perez will await further legal proceedings as the case continues to develop. Durham Sheriff's Office has not provided additional details regarding any further suspects or if more arrests are anticipated concerning this investigation.
