Early morning commuters on Interstate 79 experienced significant delays due to a collision near the Route 910/Wexford interchange. As WTAE reported, the southbound lane closures extended from Butler County to the interchange. The incident occurred this morning and precipitated a response from state police.
Though details on the crash were initially sparse, authorities have since confirmed that at least one individual was transported to the hospital, according to information provided by dispatchers to CBS News. The number of vehicles involved remains undisclosed. The disruption, which began around 4 a.m., forced motorists to seek alternate routes and caused the typical early-hour lull in traffic to grind to a halt.
PennDOT announced the reopening of the affected section of I-79 just after 7:30 a.m., restoring the flow of vehicles in the southbound lanes after more than three hours of closure. They had issued an earlier statement regarding the road's condition and the resulting closures, indicating that drivers should anticipate a challenging commute.
