A family on the South Side confirmed the identities of three relatives killed in a hit-and-run crash. According to KSAT, Juan Pablo Salas, 61, and his daughters Leslie Salas, 25, and Yareli Salas, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident which occurred last Friday near U.S. Highway 281 and Roosevelt Avenue.
The Salas family, in a heart-wrenching interview, shared that Juan Pablo and his girls were the epitome of joy and love. Now, they must cope with their devastating loss while making urgent arrangements to return their loved ones to Monterrey, Mexico, for burial, a request shared by the girls' mother, Liliana Dominguez, who told KSAT in Spanish, "It’s a big loss in the family."
The devastating chain of events began when a man rear-ended the vehicle carrying the Salas family, propelling it into the onrushing path of other cars. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the identities of Leslie and Yareli last Saturday morning, as reported by KSAT, and Juan Pablo Salas' identity was confirmed later.
The suspect, initially having fled on foot after causing the collision, was eventually apprehended by the San Antonio police. Details regarding the driver's identity and the potential charges were not immediately released by the dept. In addition, another individual involved in the aftermath of the initial collision was urgently taken to the hospital, with their condition not publicly known.
