A firefighter was injured earlier today while responding to a residential fire in east Charlotte, as flames consumed a house near North Sharon Amity Road. According to WBTV, the fire began before 6 a.m. and took firefighters 37 minutes to control. The property, believed to be vacant, is expected to be demolished following the incident.
The firefighter's injury was described as minor, as reported by Queen City News noting the individual sustained an ankle injury. Despite the injury, no other casualties were reported, the firefighter was taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution, a move mirroring the protocol for such situations.
