Set to launch in November 2025, the first dog-friendly cruise, a novel enterprise by Cruise Tails and Expedia Cruises of West Orlando, will welcome both canines and their human companions for an adventure at sea. The cruise, hosting onboard Margaritaville at Sea's the Islander, offers room for 250 dogs and their owners, departing from Port Tampa Bay. As WFLA reports, the ship will feature pet-centric activities including dog training workshops, costume contests, and parades.

Driven by personal experience, Steve Matzke of Cruise Tails came up with the concept. "I consider my Yorkie, Louis, to be part of my family, and for years I missed out on the 'family reunion' cruise because I will not travel without him. I want to change that for myself and other dog lovers," Matzke told TravelPulse. In keeping with their promise of a pet-inclusive vacation, Cruise Tails has outlined various protocols such as pet butler services, private relief stations for dogs, and the requirement for health certificates and vaccinations for all furry travelers.

Dog-friendly and dog-free areas will be clearly demarked; while pets can enjoy amenities like grooming services and puppy massages, human travelers will still have access to dog-free zones such as the Margaritaville Casino and pool decks. In preparation for the voyage, all dog parents must apply to Cruise Tails for approval, adopting specific onboard rules and ensuring their dogs are vaccinated and leashed in public areas. WTSP notes that the cruise promises to be an engaging experience with "gifts and samples from top vendors, dog shows and trainings, guest speakers, costume contests, parades and more."

Details regarding itineraries and exact sailing dates will be forthcoming, with a waitlist set to open soon for interested dog parents. Cruise Tails indicates that a full list of onboard protocols will be released in the weeks ahead, ensuring guests can plan for a vacation experience that balances fun with the practical aspects of vacationing with pets. The cruise promises a breakthrough in pet-friendly travel, catering to an audience for whom pets are just as much a part of a family as their human counterparts.
