In the early hours of November 1st, Worcester police officers responded to a disturbance reported on Park Avenue. According to the Worcester Police Department's press release, at 12:01 AM, their intervention led to the arrest of twenty-six-year-old Niko Ferrero of Fiskdale on multiple firearm-related charges.
The situation unfolded when a male, later identified as Ferrero, exited his vehicle amidst an altercation and subsequently dropped a firearm. Attempting to flee, the male climbed over a barbed wire fence. Officers discovered the firearm on the ground near the vehicle, and, per the statement from Worcester Police, located a Massachusetts ID inside the vehicle tying Ferrero to the incident. The encounter with other individuals at the scene revealed accusations of theft from Ferrero's vehicle, though they were searched, found without fault, and released.
An ensuing search led officers to Ferrero on Mason Street. Police noted "fresh cuts and scrapes on his arms," suggestive of injuries from fleeing. The investigation swiftly concluded that Ferrero was not licensed to carry firearms, moreover, there was an existing warrant for his arrest. The Crime Scene Unit took possession of the recovered firearm.
Ferrero is now facing charges that include "Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Ammunition Without an FID Card," and the initial warrant. Worcester Police have not released further details on the warrant or any additional circumstances surrounding the event at this time.
