David Schachter, a former teacher at Wimberley Independent School District, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against district and Hays County officials after false allegations of improper conduct toward two female students ended his teaching career. The lawsuit, filed on September 25 in Austin, claims these accusations, which surfaced in 2022, were unverified and escalated by school and law enforcement. Schachter was wrongfully arrested and later found not guilty by a Hays County jury, according to KSAT

As per FOX San Antonio's report, the case implicates several individuals including School Resource Officer Ashley Martinez and Danforth Junior High School Principal Christi Moeller, alongside a Hays County detective and three supervisors, as well as Jessica Rabena of the Hays County Assistant District Attorney's Office. Schachter's legal suit is in pursuit of compensation for the significant distress and damages endured, including losses of both economic nature and mental wellbeing.

Investigations into allegations against Schachter reportedly lacked due diligence, failing to interview key witnesses. Rebecca Webber stated, “There was this cascade of negative consequences that came out of these initial lies.” Despite a not guilty verdict and Child Protective Services reversing its finding of sexual abuse, he continues to fight to clear his name and has requested a jury trial. He is also pushing the Texas Education Agency to drop its review of his educator certificate. Wimberley ISD and the Hays County Sheriff's Office have declined to comment, as stated by KSAT.
