A man is in custody after a road rage incident in Fort Collins escalated into a high-speed chase, ultimately culminating in the suspect's arrest. According to the City of Fort Collins, the situation began when a driver reported being followed by a Ford F-150, which subsequently rammed their vehicle en route to the FCPS building for safety. The suspect, later identified as Jimmy Whitver, led law enforcement on a pursuit that exceeded speeds of 100 mph and included dangerous maneuvers such as ramming a deputy’s patrol car before crashing into an agricultural field.
After refusing to stop for FCPS officers on Ziegler Road, the action moved to Interstate 25 where Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies picked up the chase Whitver dodging deputies and causing havoc as he went east on County Road 64, and when his vehicle became disabled post-crash he was taken by the LCSO to an area hospital for evaluation before being handed over to FCPS custody, Fort Collins officials reported. Following his hospital release, Whitver faced multiple charges including six counts of attempted second-degree assault, one count of DUI, vehicular eluding, second-degree criminal trespass on agricultural land, criminal mischief, and harassment.
The charges laid upon Whitver are severe but, as protocol dictates, he will remain innocent until proven guilty as per the course of law. Crimes of this nature not only risk the perpetrator's safety but also endanger citizens and law enforcement officers who are involved or find themselves in proximity to such high-risk scenarios, the FCPS statement reminds the public. Each charge reflects the gravity of the offense, with both felonies and misdemeanors painting a picture of the incident's seriousness.
