Fort Worth's fight against filth has yielded some hefty results. According to the City of Fort Worth, a staggering 19 million pounds of litter and debris were collected in fiscal year 2024. This daunting figure comes as the city combines its resources across several departments and services to tackle litter control head-on.
Initiatives such as citywide litter cleanups, collaborations with outside organizations, and emergency cleanup responses have all contributed to this effort. It's not just about keeping streets free of trash. The programs aim to carry the burden of creating a safe, clean, and attractive city for all who dwell within its borders. Indeed, the Environmental Services and their comrades across various departments have pulled 218,586 pounds of trash through volunteer-led efforts alone.
The work has been extensive, touching every corner of urban life. Cleanup crusaders have targeted 8,902 illegal dumping sites, clearing them of contaminants that threaten to mar Fort Worth's landscape. And it's not just the static sites; the city welcomed 12 new street sweepers in September 2024 to keep their streets in check. In a show of flexibility and dedication, the city also provided rapid responses to extraordinary situations – like the cleanup efforts following the Sandman Hotel explosion.
