Earlier this month, a day care employee at Nurturing Nook in Fox Point was arrested on suspicions of child abuse. WISN 12 News reported the arrest took place on November 13, after police were alerted to an incident that had occurred a few days prior. The Fox Point Police have arrested one person, a 25-year-old woman whose identity has not been revealed due to a lack of charges filed at this time.
"The emotional toll that it's taken on our family can't be overstated," one parent, whose 1-year-old daughter was in the room where the alleged abuse occurred, told WISN 12 News. After being informed by a day care administrator, this parent made the swift decision to not return their children to the facility. According to the Fox Point Police Chief, the investigation is complex, but charges will be referred to the district attorney's office. Details on the situation remain scarce as the matter is still under investigation.
Following the incident, River Point Nurturing Nook released a statement confirming that two employees were terminated over their actions, which were deemed inconsistent with the center's care standards. "Our findings confirmed that actions by the two staff members did not align with our standards of care and commitment to child safety," a portion of the statement read, as mentioned by CBS 58. The day care center has been cooperative with governing bodies and has communicated with families about the matter.
Further information was shared in a letter to parents from the day care center Director, Lena Lo, as well as other executives, detailing the genesis of the police investigation stemmed from a child's injuries. This letter was issued on the same day as the arrest, indicating the swift response by the Nurturing Nook administration. However, the Fox Point Police Department has declined multiple requests to release the official arrest report, citing the continuing investigation, as reported by Journal Sentinel.
