A construction crew incident in Venice this Wednesday afternoon led to an unexpected rupture of a 2-inch natural gas line. The event took place on S Abbot Kinney Boulevard and prompted an immediate response from emergency services. The LAFD report provided a detailed account of the occurrence, noting, "No fire. No persons ill or injured."
LAFD personnel swiftly moved to isolate the affected area, as the city's residents and visitors were urged to find alternative routes to circumvent the scene of the gas leak. Full closure of Abbott Kinney Boulevard between Santa Clara Avenue and Aragon Court was implemented to safely allow LAFD and Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) crews to carry out necessary repairs. There was, at the time of the incident, no estimated time provided for reopening the boulevard.
With the road closure in effect, local commuters were significantly inconvenienced, as the LAFD urged those in the vicinity to avoid the area. Detours were made available to facilitate the uninterrupted flow of traffic.
