A well-trodden bridge that has long been a vital link for outdoor enthusiasts and youth sport participants throughout Germantown is set for a significant makeover. Citing safety and accessibility concerns, officials announced that the pedestrian connector between the Bob Hailey parking lot and the Bob Hailey Athletic Complex will undergo reconstruction starting December 1. The decision follows a November 2022 inspection that revealed erosion damage to the structure's foundation.
During a routine check-up last year, the bridge's compromised state was uncovered, prompting swift action. "The Bob Hailey Athletic Complex is a vital part of our community, especially for our youth sports programs," Mayor Mike Palazzolo conveyed in a statement cited by the City of Germantown. As part of the project, the current bridge will be dismantled, and in its place, AJR Industrial Services, Inc. will construct a new Contech Connector Pedestrian Bridge, which residents might recognize from the Germantown Greenway, for $204,531.
Demolition is set to start in early December, and a new bridge will be prefabricated for installation in February. Meanwhile, park-goers can use a marked alternate route to access the park.
