Lakewood's digital landscape just got a major upgrade with GFiber officially opening its Colorado headquarters in the city's downtown Belmar area on Monday. The ribbon-cutting ceremony included Lakewood Mayor Wendi Strom and members of the City Council, as reported by the City of Lakewood. This move signifies a considerable step in Lakewood's ambition to enhance high-speed internet accessibility for both its residents and local businesses.
GFiber’s decision to plant its roots in Lakewood came after a competitive process, with the city's diverse location and strong relationships with economic development and public works being pivotal to their choice. The new headquarters is not just an office, it stands as an emblem of Lakewood's economic development aspirations and is aligned with its thriving local economy goals.
"We’re really excited to be part of the Lakewood community," said Alberto Garcia, GFiber’s government and community affairs manager for Colorado, Idaho, and Utah, as per the City of Lakewood. "It’s a real testament to the vision of the leadership of the mayor, of City Council, of city staff that they wanted to bring this additional internet option to Colorado. Lakewood was our first city, it was the first place we signed, it’s the first place we’re serving customers, and now it’s going to be our home."
Residents have been hooking up to GFiber’s network since September, offering Lakewood a new competitive provider of high-speed internet. The company's reach is expanding throughout local neighborhoods, with updates on the rollout being accessible through the city's website. Strategically positioned overlooking the Belmar Plaza, the headquarters allows employees to take full advantage of the amenities that downtown Lakewood has to offer. A local artist's Colorado mural, along with interior design features like skis and snowshoes, and conference rooms named after the state's landmarks, all contribute to the locality's charm within the headquarters.
