Grand Prairie residents may have noticed a slightly less cluttered appearance at 514 S. Carrier Pkwy. A recent operation by the Grand Prairie Police Department targeted an unregistered donation box, leading to its impoundment. The box, once home to the charitable contributions of clothing and shoes, now sits under lock and key at the city's Auto Pound. An announcement detailing the situation was published by the Grand Prairie Police Department yesterday.
The notice, which is also displayed on the City of Grand Prairie and City Hall notice board, specifies that the donation box, belonging to No Name Donation Boxes, was impounded yesterday for lack of registration. The operation, which unfolded at 11:22 am, lists the case number DB-24-00041 and impound record number 24-00020675. According to the notice, the owner or registered agent has a ten business-day window to reclaim their property, failure to which will see the box considered abandoned and possibly sold, destroyed, or disposed of by the city.
The consequences of abandonment are not to be taken lightly. The City of Grand Prairie holds the right to determine the fate of the donation box if left unclaimed. To recover the box, the owner is required to present proof of ownership, a valid driver's license, and valid insurance for the retrieval vehicle, along with settling all impoundment and storage fees. The Auto Pound, where the donation box is currently stored, can be contacted for information on the amount due for release.
