The Light of Life Rescue Mission has established a tradition of compassion and community support. This Thanksgiving, it is deepening its reach by preparing to serve over 1,000 meals to those in need. One of the mission's long-time volunteers, affectionately known as the “Green Bean Man,” Don Waite, has spent the past 28 years contributing to the cause. He arrived early on Thanksgiving morning, prepared to work on the task.

"It's one of the biggest blessings I get in my life,” Waite stated, as detailed by WPXI. His volunteer efforts this year involved preparing approximately 550 pounds of green beans, a holiday staple. Doug Smith, assistant executive director at the Light of Life Rescue Mission, reminded that the organization maintained the belief that "Hope begins with a meal," echoing a sentiment central to their operations for over 70 years.

As temperatures begin to fall, the Light of Life Rescue Mission also distributed 500 winter coats, an effort that aligns with the cold weather gripping the city. "And with the big chill coming this weekend, it's very timely," CBS News Pittsburgh reported, highlighting both the practicality and necessity of such initiatives in the winter months.

The nonprofit's doors remain open every day of the year, reinforcing its commitment to continual support for those in need.
