In Harford County, deputies turned to drone technology to track down and arrest two teenagers accused of a series of vehicle break-ins. On Monday, at least 21 vehicles were reported to have been plundered by the suspects.

Following the incidents, the Harford County Sheriff's Office dispatched drones, leading to the location and apprehension of the two young individuals, one 15 and the other 16 years old. According to CBS News Baltimore, the teens were found hiding in a heavily wooded area, their whereabouts betrayed by the heat signatures captured by the drone's sophisticated imaging. The officers could swiftly and safely move in after the drone pinpointed their location.

Authorities were alerted to the spree after a series of calls regarding vehicle thefts in Abingdon and Joppa. Through the information provided by the residents, officials could discern a description of the suspect's vehicle. The vehicle later became the focus of a pursuit that ended abruptly when the suspects took the truck off-road and fled on foot. The pursuit culminated with the aid of the drone unit, as WBALTV reported.

Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler highlighted drones' efficiency and practicality, comparing them favorably to more traditional means of aerial support. "They were able to immediately deploy the drone, get it up overhead, and through the heat signatures, find these two individuals hiding in the woods," Gahler stated, as per WBAL-TV.

The two teenagers now face custody, with the 15-year-old held at a juvenile facility and the 16-year-old, charged as an adult, at the Harford County Detention Center.
