A father and son drowned in Haskell, Oklahoma, after being swept away by floodwaters. According to KOCO, on the evening last Friday, amidst stormy and rainy conditions, Lloyd Eubanks, 54, and his son William, 27, were attempting to rescue another family member from a flooded low-water slab on Coal Creek. In an attempt to render aid, both men ultimately were swept away by the water's force.
In a statement obtained by 2 News Oklahoma, a local resident, Sonya Draper, expressed her shock at the incident. "To see this happen around my neighborhood is shocking, too. I see it everywhere else in cities and states and stuff, but right here in the little town of Haskell, Oklahoma," Draper said. Rescuers recovered their bodies the following morning, following a search affected by dangerous conditions and waters filled with debris.
A coordinated search effort by multiple agencies took place earlier yesterday, including the Muscogee Creek Nation Light Horse Police and the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office. FOX23 reported that the widespread search employed UTVs, drones, boats, and manpower in an intensive effort that ultimately located the bodies of the father and son.
In the wake of the incident, Jeff Smith, the Director of Muskogee County Emergency Management, issued a stern warning as told to FOX23: "This is not a playing matter. This is not a joke. Whenever you go into these high waters, you not only risk your life but you risk the lives of first responders."
