In an effort to address crime in Hickory Hill, local authorities are deploying a new system of surveillance, with district residents preparing for an increase in neighborhood observation. At a town hall meeting, Shelby County Commissioner Miska Clay Bibbs announced the placement of 25 new cameras throughout the community, as reported by Action News 5.

The surveillance system includes a high-profile retail camera, designed as a mobile unit that can be relocated to key locations as needed, especially during the busy holiday season when shopping activity increases. According to details obtained by Local Memphis, the county's investment in the Sky Cop camera systems is primarily funded through the county investment fund. Public feedback is also being sought regarding the placement of these cameras.

Underlining the importance of the cameras, Commissioner Bibbs, who represents District 11 within the county, highlighted the urgency of the situation: "Anything that we can do to deter crime is the issue," she expressed in a statement corroborated by The Daily Memphian.

The initial rollout of the camera system is underway, with one primary unit expected to be operational in the neighborhood as early as next week, followed by additional units. Further discussions and public input sessions are planned to provide Hickory Hill residents the opportunity to offer feedback on the placement of the cameras. This input will help guide the county in its efforts to establish a network of surveillance across the area. There is also potential for additional funding in future fiscal allocations, with Bibbs expressing hopes for more support next year.
