A series of vehicular events unfolded across Wake and Durham counties on Monday, causing high-speed chases and resulting in multiple arrests. According to a report by WRAL, the chase in Wake County began when a Hyundai Elantra, later discovered to be stolen, refused to stop for deputies on Interstate 40 post-rush hour. The driver lost control near Cary Towne Boulevard and the car crashed into a tree. Injuries sustained by the driver and four juvenile passengers were described as non-life-threatening.

Another chase reportedly took place when a State Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a black Chrysler Pacifica, driven by 27-year-old Michael Devon Hester Jr., for a seatbelt violation. The refusal to stop quickly escalated into a cross-county chase that ended near downtown Durham. Although initially apprehended, the Durham County Sheriff's Office saw fit to further pursue Hester.

The incident involving the Hyundai Elantra and the juveniles was also covered by both CBS17 and ABC11. Both sources confirmed that five juveniles were hospitalized after the stolen vehicle they were in ended up crashing on the on-ramp to I-40 at Cary Towne Boulevard. No additional vehicles were involved in the incident.

As per the information provided by WRAL, charges are expected to be pressed following the conclusion of the ongoing investigation. The Wake County Sheriff's Office expressed that, during the pursuit, deputies learned the car was reported stolen.
