An incident in Ottawa County has led to charges against a 44-year-old Holland man after a detaching trailer took the life of a pedestrian and left another seriously injured this past summer. According to FOX17, the trailer, hauling a boat, became unattached from a 2004 GMC near Quincy Street and 140th Avenue on July 21, leading to the tragic event.
The subsequent investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, as covered by WOODTV, revealed that a 62-year-old Holland resident was killed in the accident. Another Holland resident, aged 38, suffered serious injuries and was promptly airlifted to the hospital. The driver of the GMC, whose license was reportedly suspended, now faces a series of charges: moving violation causing death, moving violation causing serious injury, operating on a suspended license causing serious injury, and failing to stop at a crash scene.
The Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office confirmed the charges against the driver, including one count of moving violation causing death, according to WZZM13. Additional charges include driving while license suspended causing death, failing to stop and identify causing death, and similar counts associated with the serious injury of the second victim. The prosecutor's office has yet to announce an arraignment date.
