As part of its annual effort to support Houstonians in need on Thanksgiving Day, the City Wide Club is hosting its 46th annual Super Feast at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The event, starting at 10 a.m., will offer not only a hot meal but also additional services, including clothing giveaways, job assistance, and haircuts for those in need, detailed ABC13.
Earlier this week, the City Wide Club's call for assistance was answered by the community, achieving a collection of 3,075 turkeys and 632 frozen whole chickens among other donations, as reported by Click2Houston. However, with the ongoing demand, The organization continues to face a shortage in its resources, seeking an additional 600-800 turkeys and a significant amount of canned goods to meet the demand.
The convention center is expecting a crowd of more than 35,000 individuals. In her interview with ABC13, Stephanie Lewis, the regional director of the City Wide Club of America, emphasized, "Absolutely, we are still receiving donations of turkeys and canned goods, other non-perishables, gently used clothing, or new clothing." Lewis continues urging the public to contribute to the initiative, highlighting the simplicity of the donation process: "Just drive by in front of Exhibit Hall A, and volunteers will unload for you."
Amid the preparatory hubbub, Super Feast also caters to those preferring to dine within the sanctity of their own vehicles, presenting a "grab n' go" line wherein people can collect pre-packed food boxes. According to the information obtained by ABC13, these boxes will contain a frozen turkey, chicken or ham, coupled with various non-perishable items.
