Houston residents can expect cooler fall temperatures ahead. After a period of rainy and humid conditions, sunny skies and lower temperatures have returned to the city. According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday's forecast calls for a sunny day with a high near 68, along with a north wind of 10 to 15 mph, gusting up to 20 mph.
The favorable weather is due to a cold front that moved through earlier this week, bringing dry air. Temperatures are expected to remain steady, ranging from the 60s to low 70s during the day, with morning temperatures potentially dipping into the 40s. As reported by Click2Houston, Thursday morning was particularly brisk with temperatures expected to "really settle by Thursday morning", waking up Houstonians to the mid-40s.
Notably, it has been over eight months since Houston has experienced temperatures in the mid-40s. Click2Houston recounts the city almost reaching those lows twice this fall, with a 47° temperature recorded this past Sunday and 48° last Friday. "However, the last time we were in the mid-40s was on March 19th when we dropped to a chilly 43°. That was 245 days ago!" Click2Houston detailed in their forecast overview.
The upcoming days are expected to bring sunshine and clear skies. Friday is forecasted to be sunny with a high near 70, and the pleasant weather is expected to continue into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. The 10-day outlook indicates a warm-up early next week, with favorable conditions for Thanksgiving, as long as rain does not occur.
"Temperatures will be really pleasant over the next couple of days as we’ll see cool mornings in the 40s and 50s and perfect afternoons in the low 70s," Click2Houston concludes in their report. The city is set to experience a brief autumnal break, providing a respite from the usual Texas heat.
