"After nearly 31 years of working for the Department of Public Works, I have decided to step into a new chapter of my life and retire from City of Milwaukee service," said Jeffrey S. Polenske. After serving under three mayors and rising from Traffic Control Engineer to Commissioner, Polenske will move on to a new role as Vice President at Michael Baker International, according to the City of Milwaukee.

Polenske, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee alum, began his career with the Department of Public Works directly after graduation as a Traffic Control Engineer. Reflecting on his career, he shared, "I take great pride in the City that I have lived in and worked for since going to school at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and then getting my first job with DPW as a Traffic Control Engineer." He also emphasized the rewarding nature of his work, stating, "It really has been a rewarding career working with so many dedicated public servants over the years and it has been a pleasure to serve as a Cabinet Member for Mayor Tom Barrett, as well as, Mayor Marvin Pratt and Mayor John Norquist since 2000." Now, Polenske is excited to pursue new professional goals at Michael Baker International, while continuing his long-standing commitment to Milwaukee, as reported by the City of Milwaukee.

Outgoing Commissioner Polenske expressed deep gratitude towards his colleagues and staff at the Department of Public Works, emphasizing their ongoing dedication to serving the community. "With great appreciation, I want to specifically thank all employees of the Department of Public Works for their continued efforts to provide a high quality of service to our community," he stated. He reassured that his departure would not affect the department's readiness, particularly as it prepares for the winter season, as stated by the City of Milwaukee.

In his parting note, Polenske expressed heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support he received throughout his public service career, particularly from his family. He emphasized their indispensable role, saying, "Lastly, I must not forget the support, patience, and love that my family has shown me over the years. I have been truly blessed." He also shared his excitement about continuing to explore Milwaukee with his wife, Lisa, and enjoying the city’s offerings, as mentioned by the City of Milwaukee.
