A juvenile has been charged, and two adults have been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run in Mooresville that took the life of 20-year-old Shaelyn Ellen Bell. WBTV reports that the incident occurred on Rocky River Road near Milroy Lane and Royalton Road in the early hours of September 15.
Responding to the scene after midnight, Mooresville Police found the victim had been struck by a vehicle that had subsequently fled the area. Later, a juvenile turned themselves in, accompanied by legal counsel, and was charged with a series of offenses including felony hit and run and misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle, as noted in QC News. After processing, the juvenile was released into the custody of their parents.
The ongoing investigation led to the arrest of two adults, Elaine Marie Hughes, 56, and Scott William Hughes, 58, who have been charged with felony accessory after the fact. According to WCNC, Elaine Hughes was arrested on November 13 with a bond set at $10,000, while Scott Hughes faced a bond of $15,000 following his November 16 arrest.
In addition to the aforementioned charges, the juvenile also faces a misdemeanor provisional license violation after 9 p.m. and was cited for the use of a mobile device while driving under the age of 18.
