
On a quiet Saturday night, a brush fire emerged in Koke‘e, prompting a swift response from local firefighters. According to an official press release from the County of Kaua‘i, the fire was reported around 8:15 p.m. near mile marker 6 on the winding Koke‘e Road.
First responders from the Waimea fire station arrived to discover a fire stretching roughly the size of a football field. Though no injuries were noted, nor any buildings in jeopardy, the speed at which the fire was addressed speaks to the urgency these scenarios command. A collaborating team of firefighters from Hanapēpē fire station and an on-duty battalion chief joined the fray. Their joint efforts subdued the blaze in about a quarter-hour, reflecting a proficiency that is hallmark of the local brigade.
Despite the fire’s swift containment, crews remained on-site, vigilant in their efforts to extinguish any lingering embers. They ensured all hot spots were fully dampened and the fire thoroughly extinguished, wrapping up the process before 10 p.m.
