Knoxville residents can expect shifting weather patterns this week, starting with a blanket of fog that coated the city early this morning. According to the National Weather Service, visibility was down to three-quarters of a mile at one point, enveloping the city in a delicate gray veil as the day began. Despite the early chill, with humidity at its peak and temperatures hovering at 43°F, the day will unfold into increasing clouds, bringing a high near 69° with calm winds turning northeast.
Tonight, the forecast issued by the National Weather Service predicts a surge of showers after midnight, the day will stay dry, but after midnight, rain is likely. Expect a 90% chance of showers, with about a quarter to half an inch of rain. A light breeze from the south at 5 mph will add to the nighttime atmosphere.
Moving into Thursday, the showers are expected to persist, especially before 1 pm, with a high nearing 61°F and light southwest winds. The National Weather Service notes that the chance of continuous precipitation is strong, again at 90%, with additional quarter to half-inch amounts possible.
The wet weather will continue into Thursday night, but by then the chance of rain drops to just 20%. Skies will remain mostly cloudy but may begin to clear as temperatures dip to around 48°F and winds will calm down. Friday will bring partly sunny skies and a mild high near 59°F, offering a brief break from the rain before the weekend.
