Mark your calendars and dust off your patriotic gear, because Knoxville's 99th Veterans Day Parade is set to march down Gay Street on Monday, Nov. 11, at 10:45 a.m., as reported by the City of Knoxville. The American Legion Post 2, in collaboration with the City of Knoxville Office of Special Events, is managing the festivities, which will occur regardless of weather conditions.
The parade preparations mean street closures and parking restrictions. Starting at 8 a.m., the following roads will be off-limits to traffic: E. Hill Avenue between Hall of Fame Drive and Gay Street, Main Street between Walnut and Gay streets, and Gay Street between Main Street and E. Hill Avenue, as detailed by the City of Knoxville. Later in the morning at 9 a.m., both Market Street between Union and Clinch avenues and Union Ave between Walnut and Gay streets will also close. Parking will be a no-go on Gay Street from 7 a.m. onward, aiming to ensure a clear path for the celebration.
According to the City of Knoxville, attendees should plan to grab their spots early, as Gay Street between Main Street and E. Fifth Avenue won't be accessible after 10:15 a.m. However, this temporary disruption of the city's flow is a small price for commemorating the service of those who've donned the uniform.
The city is waiving fees in all City-owned parking garages, and metered parking outside the parade zone will be free on Monday. Roads will reopen by 12:30 p.m., allowing routine traffic to resume soon after the parade concludes.
