
In the early hours of November 20, 2024, a fire broke out at a commercial building in Hollywood, engulfing a laundromat located at 1086 N St Andrews Pl. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the blaze, which was reported at approximately 01:34 AM, showed fire from one unit within a one-story row of commercial spaces.
The LAFD's response was swift and methodically executed, with firefighters immediately engaging in an offensive mode to contain the flames. Reinforcements were quickly requested to subdue the fire, as detailed in an alert by the LAFD. In total, it took 74 firefighters just under a half-hour, precisely 27 minutes, to fully extinguish the blaze. It appears their efforts to decisively tackle the situation helped prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent units or the common attic area – a testament to their training and efficiency in the face of potential catastrophe.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation, as crews and officials work to ascertain the events leading up to the incident. At the time of the knockdown declaration at 02:01 AM, LAFD reported that no injuries had been sustained during the firefighting efforts. This information was released alongside a follow-up alert confirming the successful containment of the fire to the unit of origin.
Firefighters on scene were part of a comprehensive deployment including units such as Battalion Chiefs, EMS captains, and specialized urban search and rescue teams, among other resources as per the LAFD's knockdown report.
