The Los Angeles Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a fatal hit-and-run incident that took place earlier this month. According to details released, a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle around 12:05 a.m. on November 5, 2024, while crossing at the intersection of 87th Place and Central Avenue.
Despite efforts by the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, who was driving southbound on Central Avenue, did not stop to provide their information or render aid, a requirement under California law. Instead, they continued on, leaving a community to grapple with the loss and injustice of a life tragically cut short.
A video capturing the suspect’s vehicle has been made available on the official LAPD website, urging witnesses to come forward with any information that might lead to the identification and arrest of the individual responsible. The City of Los Angeles offers up to $50,000 as a reward for tips that significantly aid the case, through a fund specifically allocated for such incidents of hit-and-run.
Community members with any information are encouraged to reach out to Detective Karla Carrillo at the South Traffic Division. The department reminds the public that in the event of a collision, it's crucial that individuals involved should pull over, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene until they have properly identified themselves. In addition, the LAPD emphasizes the importance of adhering to road safety regulations to avoid such devastating outcomes.
