A fatal police shooting in Las Vegas has sparked calls for accountability after homeowner Brandon Durham was killed by Officer Alexander Bookman. Durham, 43, was shot after calling 911 to report a home invasion near Sunset Park on Tuesday last week. His family and civil rights attorney Lee Merritt are urging the district attorney to charge the officer involved, as per the KTNV report.
According to 8 News Now, at a press conference, attorney Lee Merritt called for immediate action against Officer Bookman, stating that the officer used force on a person who was clearly the resident and needed help. It was also revealed that the homeowner, Brandon Durham, had a sexual relationship with the intruder, 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux, who allegedly wanted the police to kill her on the day of the invasion, according to an arrest report.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson stated that the investigation is still in its early stages and it is too soon to determine if criminal charges will be filed against any officers. He emphasized that he does not have all the information yet and that it would be inappropriate to form an opinion at this time.
Boudreaux, the suspect, was arrested on several felony charges, including home invasion and assault with a deadly weapon, and booked into the Clark County Detention Center, as mentioned in a report by hoodline. Officer Bookman has been placed on routine administrative leave while the Las Vegas Metro Police Department's Critical Incident Review Team investigates the shooting, focusing on policies, tactics, and training related to the use of force.
The Durham family is calling for a more transparent investigation, accusing the Metro police of misleading the public about the incident.
