The Las Vegas community is grappling with a tragedy as new details emerge about the deadly shooting of a homeowner by police. On the night of November 12, Brandon Durham, the victim, called 911 to report a home invasion. The subsequent police response ended with Durham being fatally shot by Officer Alexander Bookman. Released 911 audio revealed a disturbing chaos and provided insight into the event's harrowing moments, as reported by FOX5 Las Vegas.
According to the audio obtained by KTNV, Durham provided a description of the attacker, stating the suspect was "tall, big and wearing a red hoodie." Despite this information and the account from Durham's neighbor, who corroborated the intruder's description and chaotic activity, it remains uncertain whether the information was communicated to Officer Bookman. Durham's call ended with audible screams and gunshots as the officer opened fire, believing he witnessed a struggle between Durham and the intruder over a knife. However, there was potentially only one suspect involved in the incident, later identified as 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux.
The aftermath of the shooting has led to demands for justice and accountability, with Durham’s family and their attorneys calling for the arrest of Officer Bookman. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson commented on the gravity of the situation and said the investigation could take months. In a move seeking to ease tension, he indicated, "it is too soon to determine if criminal charges will be filed against any officers," as noted by a reporting from Hoodline.
While the circumstances surrounding the shooting continue to unfold, Boudreaux, the alleged home invader, is now facing several felony charges. Her next court date is scheduled for Monday, November 25. Amid a mourning and outraged community, this incident raises questions about law enforcement's response to emergency situations. The review of Metro Police's tactics and policies, particularly regarding the use of force, is ongoing as part of their standard Critical Incident Review. The family of Durham, supported by civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, is calling for a transparent investigation, claiming the public has been misled about the events leading to Durham’s death. Officer Bookman has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the department's review, as is standard procedure in such cases.
