The Las Vegas Raiders, struggling with a 2-7 record, are turning to Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback after a Week 10 bye, according to head coach Antonio Pierce. Minshew, who has 1,501 passing yards, six touchdowns, eight interceptions, and four fumbles this season, is getting the support of the Raiders' staff. Pierce told NBC Sports, "But this week, I felt like Gardner gives us the best opportunity to move forward. And he has every opportunity to go out there and give us a win."
Despite Minshew's earlier benching and the brief start of Aidan O'Connell before an injury, head coach Pierce remains supportive, saying, "At some point, you gotta give a guy confidence," as noted in a press conference by News 3 Las Vegas. The Raiders are now focused on their upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, with a clearer direction under new offensive coordinator Scott Turner and senior adviser Norv Turner.
The changes follow the departure of former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy as the Raiders look to turn their season around. Pierce emphasized that Minshew should play freely and adopt a positive mindset for the remainder of the season, emphasizing that there is nothing to lose at this point.
The Raiders will face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, aiming for a victory and a path forward for the rest of the season. With Minshew at the helm, Pierce stated, "2-7, so everything that's behind us is behind us, and I'm looking forward to everything in front of me," in the News 3 Las Vegas report.
