Suspended Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sergeant Kevin Menon was arrested at the Regional Justice Center, as shown in new video footage procured by Channel 13. The video depicts Menon passing through courthouse security before officers move swiftly to handcuff him. Menon, involved in two criminal cases, faces charges for orchestrating unlawful arrests and possession of child sex abuse material.
Menon's earlier indictment concerns 13 charges linked to alleged rights violations and arranged fake arrests, with the majority of the victims being Black men, as reported by KTNV. According to 8 News Now, Menon was initially apprehended on August 30, 2024, and posted a $27,000 bond. A subsequent search of Menon’s property reportedly uncovered around 200 images of child sexual abuse on two laptops, including disturbing material involving a toddler.
The situation intensified when detectives allegedly found additional child sex abuse material on Menon's devices at the time of his arrest at a courthouse, leading to his most recent charge. His attorney, Dominic Gentile, was present during the courthouse arrest but requested a delay in the hearing to prepare arguments. Menon has since posted a $100K cash bail after being taken into custody, and now prosecutors are advocating for a higher bail in his original case. They contend Menon poses a risk to both himself and the community and may attempt to flee or delete evidence.
Prosecutors have highlighted the severity of the material found on Menon's computers, citing a disturbing range of explicit images allegedly downloaded from Russian websites. "The vast array of images on defendant Menon’s computers are as extensive as they are disturbing," prosecutors wrote in the motion for a bail hearing, as noted by 8 News Now. They further allege that Menon attempted, but failed, to delete approximately 90 images of child sexual abuse material after his police powers were suspended. Future court hearings are expected next week, with Menon's arraignment on Wednesday, November 6, and a preliminary hearing on Thursday, November 7.
Following his arrest, Menon was placed on paid leave, which has since been discontinued as his police powers remain suspended pending investigation. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s decision to stop his pay reflects the seriousness with which it is handling the case, ensuring Menon receives no financial benefit while the accusations are under review.
