Long Beach residents are reeling from a series of violent events last night that included two no-hit shootings and a fatal traffic incident, as detailed in the latest blotter from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD). The first incident, a no-hit shooting, occurred on the 3000 block of Lakewood Boulevard at around 11:40 p.m. A woman driving along the street reported hearing what she believed to be gunfire, which allegedly caused her to crash her vehicle, though officers found no evidence of the shooting following their investigation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the authorities are still looking into the matter.
In another event just a short time later, on Nov. 3, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a shot call on the 300 block of West 14th Street. Here, they did find evidence of a shooting but the suspects had fled before the arrival of the police. No injuries were registered and the police are yet to discern both the suspects' identities and their reasons for the shooting. "The suspects(s) fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation," the LBPD reported.
A more somber episode unfolded with a report of a traffic fatality involving a male adult pedestrian at Anaheim Street and Orange Avenue. The mishap occurred on Nov. 2, which led to the man's death. LBPD's Collision Investigation detectives have taken up this case, and details are yet to be fully disclosed with a promise of a further news release.
The night also saw a display of effective policing when LBPD officers conducted a traffic stop on the 1000 block of E. 16th Street at 7:01 p.m. on Nov. 2. A firearm was recovered during the stop, and the individual, already barred from possessing weapons, was arrested. "Great work officers! Last night, officers safely took a gun off the streets," praised the LBPD. The case continues to be investigated.
