The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has established a $20,000 reward for information that could lead to directly apprehending and convicting those responsible for the September murder of Irene Gonzalez, as per a motion approved unanimously under Supervisor Janice Hahn's direction. The incident, which claimed the life of the Lynwood resident, occurred on September 15, when Gonzalez was reportedly shot after briefly sitting in the passenger seat of a dark four-door sedan, as reported by the County of Los Angeles. She attempted to escape after the shooting but tragically collapsed and died at the scene.
Described as a "vicious, close-range shooting" by Supervisor Hahn, the crime has left two sons without their mother. "This was a vicious, close-range shooting, and now there are two sons without the mother they so needed. Solving this crime won't bring their mom back, but Irene and her loved ones deserve justice, and this violent criminal with no regard for human life belongs behind bars," Hahn said in a statement made by the County of Los Angeles. The community has been appealed to come forward with any information that might help the investigation.
Specific details of the involved vehicle have been released to the public: an older model four-door black sedan with tinted windows and a sunroof. It was last seen parked in front of 12514 Oak Street around the time Gonzalez was shot. Hahn emphasized the importance of community cooperation, "We need the public's help here. If you saw or may have seen something, please call us. Irene's sons need you," the County of Los Angeles stated.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with potentially relevant information to reach out to Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau Detective Lt. Mike Gomez at (323) 890-5500 or to anonymously report tips to the Crime Stoppers Hotline at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
