Buckeye's horizon is set to be reshaped with the construction of Verrado Marketplace, an open-air mall that promises to become a cornerstone of commerce and leisure in West Valley. The groundbreaking event transcended mere ceremonial pomp; it was the materialization of two decades of anticipation for Mayor Eric Orsborn, who, embodying the collective impatience of Verrado's residents, told KTAR, "I've driven past this vacant lot for over 20 years," expressing his eagerness to see the area "transformed into the vibrant destination we’ve always envisioned."

During the ceremony, the names of the multiple businesses that would settle in this half-a-million square feet hub were revealed, ranging from the familiar refuge of Target and HomeGoods to the culinary escapades promised by Shake Shack and Salt Tacos + Tequila, Verrado Marketplace is forecasted to open in spring 2026 and will also host a brand new entertainment concept from Harkins Theatres known as 'BackLot'. A venue complete with dining, arcade games, a bowling alley, and spaces designated for parties and events, according to ABC15.

What appears most captivating about this development is its projected role as more than a mere commercial venue, Vestar President and CEO David Larcher envisions the Marketplace as a community hub for the Verrado community and the entire West Valley, as he described to ABC15, "This shopping center will offer a dynamic mix of premium retail, dining, and entertainment, along with large gathering spaces." Beyond the evident economic boon, with over $50 million anticipated in total tax revenue for Buckeye and more than 1,500 permanent jobs.

Vestar is no stranger to fostering such community hotspots, with several shopping centers across the Valley such as Desert Ridge Marketplace, Tempe Marketplace, and Queen Creek Marketplace indicating their proficiency at carving out collective spaces in the urban sprawl, Mayor Orsborn similarly told KTAR, "Vestar development will elevate Buckeye as the place to be in the West Valley and help drive growth throughout the entire city."
