Early Saturday morning, a 25-year-old man was left critically injured following a hit-and-run incident in North Philadelphia. NBC Philadelphia reports the accident occurred around 2:47 a.m. on the 900 block of Watts Street, when the man attempting to cross the street was struck by a white SUV, possibly a Jeep, which then fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
Philadelphia police are actively seeking the person at the vehicle's wheel, an individual who has thrown a community into a state of distress and apprehension. The suspect was last observed to quickly drive southbound towards Parrish Street, as FOX 29 details. Law enforcement and residents alike are calling for the driver to come forward.
The victim of the hit-and-run was rushed to Temple University Hospital with critical injuries that included a skull fracture and internal bleeding. Action News footage of the area potentially reveals the white vehicle involved in the incident. "Turn yourself in, don't hurt nobody, and do the right thing," stated resident Cecil Bosman, in a statement from Action News.
Authorities urge anyone who may have information on the driver or the vehicle to contact the Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3180 or to call or text the Philadelphia Police Department's tipline at 215-686-TIPS (8477), FOX29 noted.
