
A 40-year-old man has died while in the custody of the San Antonio Police Department, following an arrest that occurred on Saturday morning. The incident began when officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of Bandera Road, according to KENS 5.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the officers encountered, the man who appeared to be attempting to gain entry into residences by pulling on front door handles. Initial observations by the responding officers suggested the man was under the influence of a substance, a detail that has not yet been confirmed, as reported by KSAT. Following his detention, he was transported to a city facility on the 600 block of North Frio Street to receive health care services.
While at the facility, the man became unresponsive. Despite the prompt arrival of EMS personnel, his life could not be sustained and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact circumstances leading to the man’s unresponsiveness are still unclear and the subject of ongoing inquiries, as per KSAT.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will be carrying out a death investigation to determine the cause of death. Concurrently, the Internal Affairs Unit of the San Antonio Police Department will conduct its own investigation into the events surrounding the man's detention and subsequent death, as stated by police department protocols.
