U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Progreso Port of Entry arrested Raul Humberto Irigoyen Chavez, a Mexican citizen. He was wanted by Mexican authorities for the alleged aggravated murder of his wife in Chihuahua, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Port Director Walter Weaver commented on the arrest, stating, "This significant apprehension of a man wanted in Mexico for aggravated murder illustrates the international reach of law enforcement and the close working relationship we maintain with law enforcement partners from the Government of Mexico." He emphasized the importance of honoring warrants and partnering with INTERPOL to support CBP's border security mission, as stated by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
On last Sunday, CBP officers at the Donna International Bridge conducted a secondary inspection of Irigoyen Chavez, confirming through biometric checks that he had an outstanding felony arrest warrant. He was then handed over to Mexican authorities for due process. The National Crime Information Center, which helps law enforcement share information, played a role in his arrest. The center tracks individuals wanted for various offenses, including escape, money laundering, and child sexual abuse. Charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, as reported by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
