The Manor High School community held a gathering to remember Darrin Loving, an 18-year-old who was fatally stabbed on school grounds. Images of Darrin were displayed on the scoreboard during the event, as reported by KVUE.
As students prepare to return to campus after the tragic incident, safety concerns are significant. Ronzelle Woods expressed this feeling, saying, "I honestly don't even feel safe coming to school on Tuesday." In response, Manor ISD Superintendent Robert Sormani emphasized the district's commitment to increasing campus security and addressing these concerns at the state level to ensure student safety, in a statement obtained by KVUE.
Those who knew Loving shared fond memories of him. Woods, a friend since middle school, remembered how Darrin would make him laugh and said, "He liked to laugh, joke and talk about his day, and all he wanted to do was walk the [graduation] stage." Woods also noted that Loving was his motivation for attending school, a sentiment shared by others who admired him, as stated by MSN.
The investigation into how 18-year-old Mac Brown Mbah Mbanwei obtained the weapon and brought it onto school property is ongoing. "How Mbanwei got the knife and how it got on school property remains under investigation." Mbanwei is set to undergo a mental health evaluation before his next court appearance on November 18. Despite the community's grief, there is a commitment to honor Darrin Loving's memory. Ronzelle Woods stated, "We just gotta keep our head up, keep a smile on our face even though we hurt - just for him," as noted by MSN.
