Mayor Eric Adams has taken a firm stand against potential disruptions at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, referring to would-be protesters as "grinches." In a recent statement, Adams expressed zero tolerance for parade interruptions, saying, "I really want to take the moment to tell those grinches that believe they are going to disrupt the parade that it is not going to happen," as reported by the New York Post. This statement follows last year’s incident where anti-Israel protesters halted the parade by gluing their hands to the route.
The New York Police Department, under the guidance of NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, has also reassured that there are currently “no credible or specific threats” against the parade. Tisch urged attendees to remain vigilant, to always be report anything suspicious, and to consider public transport as a means to safely attend the event in light of street closures. The comprehensive safety plan for the event involves both visible and covert security measures and relies on the collaboration of several city agencies and the public’s cooperation, as illustrated in a statement obtained by the City of New York.
