Earlier today, the Memphis Fire Department quickly addressed concerns about a possible fire at Norris Achievement Academy in South Memphis. According to a report by Action News 5, the emergency services were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m. MFD soon confirmed that the source of the smoke was a portable chiller unit with no fire danger present. The incident caused some disruption, with Memphis Police assisting with traffic control to manage the situation outside the school.
Following the preliminary scare, it was reported by WREG that no children were inside the school during the time of the incident, but all other individuals were evacuated as a precaution. The fire department ensured that the smoke did not pose a larger threat to the school's structural integrity or the community's safety.
FOX13 Memphis further elaborated on the event, noting that firefighters found "light smoke" originating from the building. Their investigation led them back to the portable chiller unit in question, effectively ruling out a fire hazard. Confirming the safe resolution of the incident, officials reported no injuries.
While the school's routine was disrupted, the swift response from the Memphis Fire Department and police ensured the safety of everyone involved. A group of adults, according to FOX13 Memphis, was observed waiting outside the school for nearly an hour as firefighters completed their assessment.
