The Mesa Police Department is ramping up its efforts to prevent DUI-related accidents. In partnership with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the department has announced the 2024 Holiday DUI Task Force initiative, which will focus on keeping impaired drivers off the road through January 1, 2025.
The task force aims to enhance public safety by conducting DUI enforcement from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. on select nights, targeting those times when celebrations are likely to lead to irresponsible decisions behind the wheel. According to a statement obtained by MesaNow, the operation brings together multiple local law enforcement agencies with the shared mission of reducing impaired driving-related collisions, along with the injuries and deaths they cause.
This initiative is part of an annual push by the Mesa Police Department to create a safer community during a time when festivities often result in a spike in DUI cases. The Mesa Police Department urges the public to celebrate the holidays with a sense of responsibility.
For those planning to indulge in holiday libations, the Department encourages finding an alternative to getting behind the wheel - whether that’s appointing a designated driver or leveraging rideshare services. In a call to action echoed by the Mesa Police Department, "If you witness unsafe or impaired driving, please report it immediately to your local law enforcement agency," as noted by the City of Mesa newsroom.
