A Michigan State Police trooper is being hailed for his quick actions after a construction accident left a man pinned under 700 pounds of drywall. The incident occurred last Thursday as the worker, a 43-year-old resident of Levering, was attempting to move the material at the under-construction Sault Ste. Marie Post, The Detroit News reports.

According to WWJ Newsradio, the drywall sheets fell on the man as he bent down, tragically trapping him. Alerted by the worker's faint cries for help, Trooper Paul Ferraro, who was inside the post at the time, responded and lifted the drywall enough for the man to escape. Despite being trapped while inside the post, the man escaped with no major injuries. The trooper's actions were captured on video by MSP, although the footage of the rescue itself was not released.

As per The Detroit News, Trooper Ferraro reflected on the event, saying, "This incident could have had a much more serious outcome. I’m just glad I was nearby to help." The rescued man, whose name has not been disclosed, reportedly expressed sincere gratitude towards Ferraro's swift and life-saving efforts.
